Haga Castle

The first documented mention of Haga dates back to 1408, when it was owned by Sten Bengtsson. His son, Ture Stensson, had a small castle built there. After Ture Stensson's death in 1425, ownership passed to King Karl Knutsson. His daughter Christina and her husband Erik Eriksson resided at the castle, which remained in family hands until 1836. Between 1660 and 1670, a comprehensive reconstruction was carried out under the direction of Nicodemus Tessin the Elder, commissioned by Gustaf Persson. In 1894, the merchant L. L. Liberg acquired the estate. Lieutenant Adolf Wersäll purchased the castle in 1922 and undertook extensive renovations. Two years later, in 1924, it became the property of the Swedish Hotel and Restaurant Employees Union. From 1940 to 1962, Haga functioned as a psychiatric hospital. Following further extensive renovations, it reopened as a hotel and conference center in 1990.

Haga Castle is located in the municipality of Enköping, within the Enköping district, in the Uppsala region of Sweden. It is situated at an elevation of approximately 15 meters above sea level, directly on Lake Mälaren.

Today, Haga Castle houses a hotel and conference center, which is open to visitors.
