Guttenburg Castle
Guttenburg Castle is located near Kraiburg am Inn, in the district of Guttenburg. Around 1285, Duke Heinrich XIII (Bavaria) had Guttenburg Castle built by his ministerialis Heinrich von Taufkirchen high above the right bank of the Inn on a small mountain spur. His main opponent, Archbishop Rudolf, complained in vain about the castle construction.
During the Bavarian War of 1422, Guttenburg Castle burned down. Around 1660/70 and in the 18th century, the castle was transformed into a palace with a baroque garden.
Until 1824, it belonged to the Tauffkirchners, who were elevated to the status of Imperial Barons in 1639 and Imperial Counts in 1684. In 1999, Nico Forster bought the castle and is renovating it.
Two Russian aircraft, an Antonov An-2 and a Mig fighter jet, are also exhibited in the castle park.
