Grünbühel Castle

The castle is a somber, elongated building with corner risalits. There are rooms with stucco ceilings from the 17th century. The chapel was renovated at the end of the 17th century.

The castle was first mentioned around 1419 as the "Hof am Püchl" of the Pichler (Püchler) family. Through marriage, it passed to the Hofmann family, who subsequently called themselves "von Grünbühel". After the Hofmann family, who were elevated to barons, took over Strechau Castle, it became the main seat of this family. After the last heiress of the Hofmann family, Anna Potentiana Jörger, had to leave the country due to her Protestant faith, Grünbühel was sold. It frequently changed owners, including the Counts of Stainach, Barons of Putterer, and the Counts of Welsersheimb. Before 1640, the castle burned down for the first time and was rebuilt. In 1843, Matthias Schupfer acquired the castle and made a hall available to the Protestant faithful of Rottenmann as a prayer room. A cemetery was also built next to the castle. Through his heirs, it came into the possession of the current owners, the Thörler family. The castle suffered another fire in 1866, which destroyed most of the square building.
