Großlaupheim (Lehensburg) Castle

Laupheim Castle was first mentioned in a document in 1325. In 1434, the castle was owned by the Knights of Ellerbach, who demolished it and built a new castle on its site. On March 25, 1525, the castle was destroyed by the Baltringer Haufen during the Peasants' War. Around 1550, the current feudal castle was rebuilt. In 1571, the castle was owned by the Freyberg family and in 1581 by the Barons of Welden. Around 1680, a gatehouse was built by Baron Carl von Welden, connecting it structurally with the neighboring New Castle. In 1843, the castle was sold to Victor Steiner, Franz Josef Lauterwein, and Peter Wahl, after which it was used as a castle brewery. From 1852, the castle was solely owned by Victor Steiner. In 1955, the brewery closed.
