Großhartmannsdorf Castle

The Mayoralty Estate in Grosshartmannsdorf looks back on a long history. It was founded as early as 1250 under the direction of monks from the nearby Benedictine monastery in Chemnitz. Their ownership ended in 1375. Subsequently, Count von Waldenburg became the owner of the estate. In 1434, Apel von Vizthum acquired the property, before it fell into the possession of Kunz von Kaufungen for seven years in 1446. After that, it returned to Vitzthum until 1490. Subsequently, other well-known Saxon families entered the owner register:

Agriculturally, the estate has always been closely linked to Kuckuckstein. In 1945, the owners were dispossessed and expelled by the communists. After this, the estate was divided among new farmers. Since 1990, the municipality of Großhartmannsdorf has been ensuring a continuous reconstruction of the complex. With great care, the building has been given back the identity it deserves. After all, many bearers of Saxon history have left their mark here. A museum and a painting exhibition are now housed in the property. Weddings are also performed.
