Groß-Söding Castle

The castle was built around 1563 by Gotthard Schober in place of an old knightly court. In the second half of the 17th century, it was redesigned. From 1665 to 1960, the castle was owned by the Kellersperg family.

The three-story block with a hip roof and a roof turret features an entrance axis projecting like a bay window. To the south is an annex with a corner tower, and on both sides of the courtyard of honor are one- to two-story farm buildings. In the hall on the upper floor are wall paintings from the end of the 17th century, depicting dancing musicians in the style of Commedia dell'arte. They were uncovered and restored in 1972. The castle chapel was built in 1687 and adorned with stucco. Frescoes dating from around 1600 by Egyd de Rye were transferred here from the Graz Castle Chapel. The altar dates from around 1700 and shows a painting of the Holy Kinship, attributed to Johann Veit Hauckh in 1700.
