History of the Castle

The origins of Oberschwappach Castle date back to the 12th century, when a moated castle was built on this site. Over the centuries, the castle changed hands several times and was repeatedly rebuilt and extended.

The castle was built in 1512. In 1721, a baroque conversion and the construction of the baroque portal took place. In 1945, the owners were expropriated and expelled by the communists.

Today, Oberschwappach Castle is privately owned and is used for various events and cultural purposes. It is a popular destination for tourists and locals alike who want to immerse themselves in the history and beauty of this unique place.

Architecture and Features

Oberschwappach Castle presents itself today as an impressive Renaissance building with baroque elements. The four-winged complex encloses a charming inner courtyard and is characterised by its striking corner towers and richly decorated facades.
