To be privately owned
Greisingberg Castle

Greisingberg Castle is located in the Greisingberg district of the municipality of Pregarten in the Freistadt district of Upper Austria (Greisingberg No. 1).
The Greusnicher are mentioned in documents in the years 1160 and 1170 with Arnold de Greiczing, although these are located at the Groissing seat in Arbing. The last of this lineage was probably Perthold von Greusnich, mentioned in 1326. "Grezcinc" is said to have been a Liechtenstein fief.

The small castle stands on a ridge high above the Waldaist river. Today it is a hook-shaped, two-winged, two-story building. The remaining structure consists of a high wall, which forms the outer front of a residential and farm building added on the courtyard side. The courtyard-side entrance has lost its original gatehouse. The onion dome seen in Georg Matthäus Vischer's engraving is no longer present.
Diagonally opposite the entrance stands a square tower, which is still preserved up to half the roof height and now serves as a stable. In the antechamber, there are said to be cross-rib vaults from the 17th century. The former moat in front of the tower has been leveled. On the outer wall towards the Aist, a corbel was formerly preserved, which probably belonged to a privy, but has now been lost. East of the castle, there may be late medieval wall remains. The small castle is secured against the steep slope below with a wall.
After the Second World War, the castle housed the poorhouse of the municipality. The Meierhof, formerly belonging to the Greisingberg lordship, was separated from the manorial seat in the 18th century; today it stands below the castle and is a farm. The castle building is now privately owned, has been renovated, and is inhabited.
