Golßen Castle

As early as 1276, there was a knight's estate in Golssen, which was owned by the Burgraves from the House of Wettin. In 1346, Heinrich de Damis is mentioned as the owner of the estate. In 1372, Emperor Charles IV pledged the "Veste Golssin" to the Lords of Querfurt. In 1395, Margrave Wilhelm "the One-Eyed" of Meissen, in 1402 Wichard von Rochan, and from 1418 Caspar and Paul von Knobelsdorff are mentioned as owners. After the von Knobelsdorffs, the families von Polentz and finally von Stutterheim appear as owners of the Golssen estate in the further course of the 15th century.

Around 1647, the von Bredow family acquired partial ownership of the Golssen estate and held it until 1718. In 1718, this family's property was sold to the Prussian Chamber Councillor Johann-Peter von Koehler, through whom the estate passed to his son-in-law Johann Just Vieth in 1721. He built the central part of the present castle in 1723. Through various owners, the estate finally came into the possession of the Counts zu Solms-Baruth.

The park was laid out in its present form around 1838-1840 by the new owner of the castle. The wing added in 1852 according to the plans of Eduard Knoblauch also goes back to Friedrich Heinrich Ludwig zu Solms. Inside, the castle shows features of Baroque and Classicism.

In 1945, the owners were dispossessed and expelled by the communists.
