Glienicke Palace
Glienicke Palace, once the summer residence of Prussian Prince Carl, is an architectural gem in southwestern Berlin, right on the border with Potsdam. As part of a UNESCO World Heritage site, it captivates with its Neoclassical form, based on designs by Karl Friedrich Schinkel, realizing the dream of an Italian villa on the Havel riverbank.
History+
The palace's origins date back to 1753 when a manor house was built here. After several changes of ownership, Prince Carl of Prussia acquired the estate in 1824. Under his patronage and with the visionary design by Karl Friedrich Schinkel and Peter Joseph Lenné, the estate was transformed into a southern-inspired architectural and garden landscape, adorned with antique artworks from Prince Carl's collection. After the prince's death in 1883, the palace gradually fell into disrepair. During World War II, it served as a military hospital and briefly as an officers' casino after the war. From the 1950s, it housed a sports hotel and later a residential adult education center, before reopening as a museum in the late 1980s.

The west wing also houses Europe's first Court Gardener Museum, which illuminates the history of Prussian court gardeners.
