The History of Pirkensee Castle+
Pirkensee Castle is first mentioned in 1551 as being in the possession of the Lords of Pirkensee. In 1698, a new castle was built. In 1808, ownership transferred to the Counts of Drechsel.
Architectural Features+
The current building is a three-story, plastered building with a mansard roof. The facades are structured by pilasters and cornices. The main entrance is emphasized by a portico with columns.
The Castle Chapel
The castle chapel, dedicated to St. George, is located on the ground floor of the north wing. It was built in 1702 and features an impressive baroque altar.
Current Use+
Today, Pirkensee Castle is privately owned and is used for residential purposes. Parts of the castle are occasionally opened to the public for special events.
