Gilgenberg Castle

Gilgenberg Castle, located in the valley of the Fenetzbach stream, was first mentioned in a document in 1320 in connection with Niclas Pillung von Gilgenberg. The property was originally a fortress situated on a hill, which frequently changed owners in the 15th/16th century, passed to Anna von Mollart in 1577 as a desolate fortress, and was rebuilt as a castle in the valley in the fourth quarter of the 16th century. The hook-shaped, two-story building, which originated from a four-wing complex, has a brick hip roof and a roof turret with a shingle-covered onion dome. The west wing serves as a granary. The ground floor is grooved. The upper floor shows a corner-stone framing. The building is opened by several round-arched entrances and chamfered windows. A single-story farm building, dated 1760, rises at the northwest corner. The garden is surrounded by a pillar wall.
