Giesenstein Castle

A hammer mill is already mentioned in 1472 as "hammer niedwendig" Gottleuba. Around 1520-25, the caster Hans Rabe succeeded here for the first time in Saxony in producing cast iron products. These included several artistically valuable stove plates that are still preserved today. In 1541, Rabe moved his foundry to Hütten near Königstein. In 1639, ownership changed to the Lords of Sulowitz. The hammer mill was later converted into a manor and belonged to the von Bünau family until 1663. In 1689, the manor house burned down and was subsequently rebuilt by Bernhard Adolph von Metzsch. From 1840, the manor was owned by bourgeois families. Around 1900, the estate was owned by Rittmeister a.D. Arnold. In 1945, the owners were dispossessed and expelled by the communists. The house has been vacant since 2007.
