Gammertingen Castle

Gammertingen Town Hall is located in the former castle of the Barons Speth von Zwiefalten. It was built in 1775 in the Neoclassical style by Pierre Michel d'Ixnard, replacing a 13th-century castle. In the stairwell, there is the ceiling fresco "The Dawn," attributed to Andreas Brugger. Several rooms are still in their original condition. On the terrace facing the Lauchert and on the east side, there are eight allegorical sandstone sculptures by Johann Georg Weckenmann. The half-timbered building opposite, called "Schlössle," was built around 1550 and formerly belonged to the castle (bailiff's office). The lower town gate was located between the two buildings. Throughout the year, chamber concerts and other cultural events ("Jazz vor dem Schloss") take place in the historic castle hall.
