Frohnenbruch Castle (Hoerstgen)

Frohnenbruch Manor dates back to the 14th century. It was once a Guelders fief and is located on Schloßallee in the Hoerstgen district, directly on the border with Sevelen and the Kleve district. Mentioned in 1301 as "Vronenbroick", it is found in 1304 as a fief granted by Count Rainald to Knight Johan van Straelen, who was succeeded in 1324/26 by Jan van Wachtendonc.

In the 16th century, Frohnenbruch House came into the possession of the von Millendonk family through marriage, who introduced the Reformation in their small lordship in 1556. Under Crafft von Millendonk, the structural renovation of the noble residence was completed in 1622, according to the preserved keystone. The last noble owner of Frohnenbruch was Field Marshal Carl Friedrich von dem Knesebeck, born in 1768 in Karwe near Ruppin. The house is now privately owned and cannot be visited.
