Friesenhausen Castle
Friesenhausen Castle is a moated castle in the Friesenhausen district of the municipality of Aidhausen, Haßberge district, Lower Franconia.
The builder was Philipp Fuchs von Dornheim, provost of the cathedral chapter in Würzburg, who in 1563 had this Renaissance moated castle with an extensive park built against the spirit of the times. It features elaborately designed volute gables and a large gate system with lion sculptures and the family coat of arms of the Dalberg-Zobel family. A stone bridge in front of the castle is flanked by two tournament knights.
After the Dalbergs, the Truchsesses of Wetzhausen were the owners. The complex is currently privately owned by Dr. Johann Friedrich von Eichborn, who is also involved in the rescue and renovation of the Johanniterburg Kühndorf near Meiningen.
In the late 1970s, Friesenhausen Castle was several times at Pentecost the venue for the "Festival of Peace Services" by groups of the West German peace movement, before it was moved to Beienrode due to space constraints.
