Friedstein Castle

History of the Castle+
The castle was built between 1595 and 1613 by Hans Friedrich von Stainach on the walls of an old castle ("New castle at Niederhoven built from green turf and from the ground up as a beautiful, well-accommodated Italianate house."). After a fire in 1676, the buildings were restored, especially the chapel in the southwest corner tower. Later owners included the Saurau, Sprinzenstein, and Fünfkirchen families. Since 1875, the castle has been owned by the Hohenlohe-Schillingsfürst family.
