Friedrichsthal Castle

An outwork in Berggiesshübel is already mentioned in 1452. At the beginning of the 18th century, Johann Ludwig Tüllmann built the castle. After this, ownership passed to Count Kaisersmark and later to Count Pötting, who had the current castle built on the walls of the previous building. Pötting's daughter married Baron August von Leyser in 1822, into whose possession the castle came. In 1897, Kommerzienrat Eschebach from Dresden acquired the castle and estate of Friedrichsthal and sold it in 1905 to Count von Rex, who was dispossessed and expelled by the communists in 1945.

Friedrichsthal Castle was rebuilt in 1949. It was now open as a spa and guesthouse for patients. After extensive reconstruction, the castle was integrated into the psychosomatic department of the Median Clinic. Since 2006, the new tenant Kerstin Kays has been striving to fill the building, which has been vacant since 2004, with life. It was intended to become the event center of the city of Berggiesshübel.
