Fischbach Castle

Fischbach is a very old place and can look back on a thousand years of eventful history. In 980, the place was first mentioned in a document. In 1119, the place appears in the foundation charter of the Ensdorf monastery. Thereafter, two farms in "Visbach near Stockenfels" belonging to the Landgrave of Stefling passed into the possession of the Benedictine monastery. At that time, Fischbach already had a church and a noble seat with knights from the retinue of the Landgraves of Stefling. 150 years later, a knight Rumbold is mentioned as Lord of Fischbach, who in 1266 put the Bohemians to flight when they besieged Stockenfels Castle. The following Witel family served Emperor Ludwig the Bavarian. The subsequent owners, the feared robber knights Ruger and Hans Thannhauser, acquired the entire Stockenfels property in 1447, having become rich from their raids. From then on, the history of Fischbach is closely linked to that of Stockenfels. The castle and the Fischbach estate have seen many well-known, even famous families up to the present day: the Knights Schott von Schottenstein, the Counts of Dohna, the Counts and Princes of Hohenzollern, the Counts of Thürheim, and since 1978 to this day, the Counts von der Mühle-Eckhart with their ancestral seat in Leonberg.
