Fikensolt Castle
Fikensolt is a moated castle near Westerstede in the Lower Saxon district of Ammerland. The castle was the former seat of the Lords of Fikensolt.
In 1457, the "Battle of Fikensolt and Mansingen" took place near Fikensolt, in which the Oldenburg counts met the East Frisian chieftains and gained supremacy in North Oldenburg (see the monument near Fikensolterfeld).
The moated castle was built as a Baroque palace in the second half of the 18th century, succeeding the earlier castle complex of the Knights of Fikensolt.
Today, only the manor house remains of the former Fikensolt estate. In September 1850, Julius Köbner, co-founder of the German Baptist communities, stayed here for several days. The reason for this stay was the inauguration of the Felder Baptist Church.
The property was renovated in the years 1985–88 and, as private property, is not accessible to the public.
