Fasanerie Castle

The Fasanerie Hunting Lodge was built around 1790 in the Neoclassical style. It is a two-story building with a three-story central section. The builder was Duke Georg I of Sachsen-Meiningen. The castle is surrounded by a park, which is adjoined by a nature trail. In the immediate vicinity is a historic forester's house. Until autumn 2010, the Fasanerie was used as a restaurant and information center for the Rhön Biosphere Reserve. After a short period of vacancy, the castle now houses a restaurant again.
I visited it myself in May 2014 and was impressed by the friendliness and quality of what was offered.
