Ermlitz Castle

Schloss Ermlitz+
Geschichte+
The Baroque castle of the Ermlitz manor was built in 1700 under Carl Ludwig von Bose. In 1771, ownership passed to the Leipzig mayor Heinrich Friedrich Innocentius Apel. His son August Apel wrote the novella Der Freischütz, which provided the librettist with the material for the opera of the same name by his friend Carl Maria von Weber. Weber composed the overture to his opera on Apel's fortepiano, which still stands today in the music salon of the manor house. August's son Theodor Apel was also a writer; he was friends with Richard Wagner, who stayed in Ermlitz several times. The greatest treasure of the house are the canvas wallpapers painted in gouache technique, which can be restored in the in-house workshop. Concerts tie in with the musical past of the estate.
