Elnhausen Castle

Elnhausen Castle was a moated castle on the northwestern edge of the Marburg district of Elnhausen in the Hessian district of Marburg-Biedenkopf.

In 1251, the von Elnhausen family was first mentioned as the builders of the lowland castle. Other owners included the Lords of Weitershausen before 1528 and Kaspar Magnus Schenk zu Schweinsberg in 1604. During the Thirty Years' War, the complex fell into disrepair and was acquired in the early 18th century by the Hessian Vice-Chancellor Hermann von Vultejus.

From 1700 to 1717, Hermann von Vultejus had the old dilapidated complex demolished and the current castle built on the square castle grounds of the former fortress. From the mid-18th century, several owners were named, then the castle fell to the state, which established a chief forestry office here. The castle is a baroque three-wing complex. Today, the complex is privately owned.

Only a moat south of the castle remains of the original fortress.
