Ellinge Castle, a historic complex in the Swedish region of Skåne, was built around the year 1400. It was erected on the foundations of an even older castle and bears witness to a long and eventful history, closely linked to important Danish noble families.

History+

The origins of Ellinge Castle date back to the early 12th century when it was owned by Erland Galen. Over the centuries, the estate frequently changed hands and played a significant role in Danish history. Prominent owners in the Middle Ages included members of the Thott and Sparre families. In the 16th century, the castle briefly passed to the Danish Crown before returning to the possession of the nobility, including Henry Krummedige and Eske Bille. After the childless death of Eske Bille in 1619 and the passing of his nephew Eske Laugesen Brock in 1625, the inheritance was passed on through his daughter. Later, other notable families such as the Barnekows, Walkendorffs, and Countess Margareta von Ascheberg followed.
