Elkerhausen Castle
Elkerhausen Castle, also known as Elkerhausen Palace, is a moated castle in the "Weinbach Valley" on the "Weinbach" river in the Elkerhausen district of the municipality of Weinbach in the Limburg-Weilburg district in Hesse.
The lowland castle was built on the foundations of the "Elkerhausen Moated Castle," destroyed in 1352, by Kurt and Kraft Elkerhausen, also known as Klüppel, in 1532. Their powerful medieval lineage died out in 1725.
The castle complex consisted of a two-winged main building, the core castle, with two half-timbered floors on a stone plinth and cellar. The house was surrounded by a defensive wall and secured by a moat. On the other side of the moat is the well-restored outer bailey. The castle is privately owned and inhabited.
