History of Eicholzheim Castle+
The former moated castle of the Lords of Eicholzheim was destroyed in the German Peasants' War in 1525 and subsequently rebuilt. In 1563, ownership passed to the Lords of Steinach and in 1691 to the Lords of Degenfeld. The current castle was built between 1773 and 1777. In 1835, ownership passed to the Counts of Helmstadt. Today, the castle serves as an outpost of the municipality of Seckach in Großeicholzheim. Since October 2008, it has also been home to the newly established Wasserschloss Cultural Center.
