Ehrenthal Castle
Ehrental Castle is a castle north of the historic center of the city of Klagenfurt, situated on a terrace at the foot of the Ehrentaler Mountain.
The castle was first mentioned in a document in 1645 as Wieltschnigg and was then owned by Johann Weber von Ehrental. Since 1953, it has been owned by the State of Carinthia and houses an agricultural school as well as the Agricultural Museum.
The castle is an elongated 17th-century building. It has two corner risalits. The facade is articulated with pilasters and features stuccoed window pediments, dating from around 1760 by Marx J. Pittner. The portal is asymmetrical, and next to it is a coat of arms of the Aichelburg family. A modern extension adjoins the northwest side of the castle.
The east hall on the first floor features a stucco ceiling by Kilian Pittner (around 1720), while the western room has a stucco ceiling by Marx J. Pittner (around 1760). During renovations in 1962, the baroque wall paintings from the Fromiller school were destroyed. They had depicted scenes from Ovid's Metamorphoses.
