Eggeringhausen Castle (Mellrich)

Eggeringhausen Castle is located in Anröchte-Mellrich in North Rhine-Westphalia. The three-winged building with square corner towers is situated in an English park with a Swiss stable. Its fore-building can be reached via a bridge. Events are regularly held at the castle.

Eggeringhausen was first mentioned in 1181. In the 14th century, the former castle was located in the vicinity of the former Mellrich train station. At that time, the Knights of Meldereke were native to the estate. In 1483, Noldecke von Mellrich sold the estate to Goddert zu Kettler. In 1603, Count Johann von Ostfriesland und Rietberg acquired the property.

The moated castle, which still stands today, was expanded in 1660 by Anna Catharina Countess zu Salm-Reiferscheid to serve as a widow's residence. In 1829, Baron Friedrich von Fürstenberg bought the estate from Prince Aloys von Kaunitz-Rietberg. The castle has been owned by the von Fürstenberg-Körtlinghausen family for several years.
