Dobeneck Castle

Die Anfänge und frühe Besitzer

A manor in Dobeneck is first mentioned in 1279 as being owned by the Knights of Dobeneck. Further owners were the von Mylau family in 1410, Nickel Tenner in 1456, and the von Neidberg family in 1482. In the 15th century, the estate was elevated to a knight's seat, and in the 17th century, to a knight's estate. In 1728, ownership transferred to Adam Heinrich Hickmann, who had the present castle built on the walls of the previous structure the following year. The Kasten-Hickmann family was dispossessed and expelled by the communists in 1945. Today, the castle serves as a youth hostel.
