Deining Castle
A castle is first mentioned in 1345 as being owned by Hartung Schweppermann. In 1387, Ulrich Schweppermann becomes the owner of the castle. From 1630-35, the Swedes devastate the town. The castle is burned down. In 1697, Johann Franz Heinrich von Löwenthal rebuilds the castle. In 1844, ownership changes to the Barons von Gumppenberg-Oberbrennberg and later to the Barons von Guttenberg. On August 30, 1958, Ottmar Hubert Reichsfreiherr von Gumppenberg, the last noble owner of Deining Castle, dies. Since 1959, the castle has been in private ownership and was renovated in 1985.
