Cappeln Castle (Westerkappeln)

From 1777 to 1779, the buildings were renovated and rebuilt under the brothers von Loen. A three-winged building, resembling a baroque complex, emerged from a medieval structure. However, the gables are reminiscent of the Münsterland gable designs of the Renaissance.

In 1807, Leopold Heinrich Casimir von Loen took over Haus Cappeln, but lost it in gambling to Baron von Lange as early as 1811.

Baron Carl Christian Friedrich von Lange (1782-1820) was married to Maria Regina von Bree from Hertogenbusch (Netherlands). From this marriage, the heiress Maria Anna Elisabeth Amalia von Lange (1818-1845) was born.

She married Baron Heinrich von Kalckstein (1802-1876), who was married in his second marriage to Ferdinandine von Wrede (1819-1885). The gatehouse of Haus Cappeln, built in 1862, dates back to this couple. After Heinrich's death, the estate fell to his son from his first marriage, Alexander von Kalckstein (born 1843). He sold the manor in 1889 to Reichsfreiherr Caspar von Loe, who died in Mettingen in 1914. His widow sold Haus Cappeln in 1919 to the then mayor of Westerkappeln, Heinrich Schulte.

Through inheritance, the already somewhat dilapidated property first fell to Willi Schulte in 1958 and then to his daughter Marie-Luise in 1962.

In 1964, Walter Titgemeyer took over Haus Cappeln and restored it into a representative manor house.
