Burgsinn Castle

Northeast of the village, on the outskirts of Burgsinn, lies the New Castle of the von Thüngen family. It was built between 1590 and 1620 by Melchior III and presumably Philipp Kaspar I. In the center of the grounds rises the two-story residential building from the Late Renaissance. The castle is accessed via a polygonal stair tower at the inner corner of the wings, which meet at a right angle. The round-arched portal at the base of the tower is framed by Tuscanizing columns supporting an entablature with a dentil cornice, on which the year of completion (1620) can be read. Above it is the marital coat of arms of Thüngen and von Berg. The narrow sides of the building are adorned with volute gables, divided by cornices. On the west gable, a polygonal oriel window is built on the right, which, like the stair tower, is covered with a flat dome. Through the windows on the east side, one looks out onto the terraces of the castle garden, which is still preserved in its original state. To the south extends the park, at the beginning of which stands a half-timbered building, the "Villa". To the east of it, on the slope, is the no longer cultivated orchard with old apple varieties worth preserving. The former farm buildings and the administrator's house form the western boundary of the estate and, together with the building to the north, the bowling alley, which has now been converted into apartments, enclose the farmyard.
