Burgkemnitz Castle

Schloss Burgkemnitz is built in the Renaissance style and looks very stately with its ancient corner towers, facades, and gables amidst the large graceful park, which also contains several expansive ponds. In place of an old moated castle, Bodo von Bodenhausen had a new Baroque building constructed in 1665, which a descendant, Bodo Freiherr von Bodenhausen, redesigned in the Neo-Renaissance style in 1869/70. The last owner of this manor house was District Administrator Kraft Freiherr von Bodenhausen, who was dispossessed by the land reform. In 1990, the building belonged to the district of Bitterfeld, which made it available to Caritas as a residential and nursing home until 2002.
