Bürg Castle

Bürg Castle in Bürg, a district of Neuenstadt am Kocher in the Heilbronn district in northern Baden-Württemberg, was built in its present form in 1545 by the Barons of Gemmingen. Bürg Castle is located on the northern bank of the Kocher valley opposite Neuenstadt am Kocher at the eastern end of the old village center of Bürg.

The current settlement of Bürg dates back to a castle of the Lords of Gosheim (Gochsen) from the 11th century. Since 1334, the castle was in joint ownership (Ganerbenbesitz), and among the co-heirs were the Lords of Gemmingen, the Lords of Aschhausen, the Lords of Beutingen, the Greck von Kochendorf, the Lords of Talheim, and the Lords of Weinsberg. In 1456, the castle came into the sole possession of the Lords of Gemmingen, who settled retainers in the castle's forecourt, thus founding the village where they exercised local rule until 1806.

The current castle dates back to a new construction of the manor house from 1545. The builder was Eberhard von Gemmingen zu Bürg, who also carried out the Reformation in Bürg in 1541.
