Breill Castle (Geilenkirchen)
Breill Castle is located south of Federal Highway 221 in the rural area between the North Rhine-Westphalian cities of Geilenkirchen and Übach-Palenberg, within Geilenkirchen territory.
The estate came into the possession of the Lords of Molenbach, known as Breill, after 1287. Subsequently, the Counts of Spee, von Quad, and von Goltstein are mentioned as owners.
Of the formerly extensive castle complex from the 16th to 18th centuries, only a small, two-story building with three axes and a portal from 1754 remains after its almost complete destruction in the Second World War. The Baroque renovation of the castle was carried out in 1754 by the renowned Aachen architect Johann Joseph Couven.
The right wing of the former castle complex was rebuilt in 2000 and is now inhabited by the family of the Counts of and zu Hoensbroech.
