Brauna Castle
Brauna is first mentioned as Brunowe on May 19, 1225, in a document concerning the consecration of the Kamenz parish church. Through enfeoffment of vassals, Brauna becomes a manorial seat in 1291. By 1404, Brounaw is already a knight's seat, which is enfeoffed to Knight Ulrich von Grünrod in 1438. After the place changed owners several times, the Lords of Schönberg bought it in 1581, and Brauna remained in their possession until 1708. Brauna Castle was built between 1685-1706 and rebuilt between 1820-1822. In 1945, the owners were forcibly dispossessed and expelled by the communists. In 1949, a youth workhouse was established in the castle. From 1964, the castle served as an orphanage. Today, Louisenstift GmbH operates a children and youth welfare center in the castle.
