Borthen Castle

Museum

The Old Castle Borthen was built in 1543 by Hans Christoph von Bernstein. Later, ownership passed to the Counts of Wallwitz. In the following centuries, the castle was extended and rebuilt several times. Around 1700, the New Castle was built. In 1945, the Counts of Wallwitz were dispossessed and expelled by the communists. After 1945, the manor with the castle came into the possession of the painter G. Schiffel. For a time, the estate was used by an agricultural enterprise. After the reunification, a Lockwitz company temporarily took over the premises.

Today, the manor with the partially renovated castle is again for sale. Directly next to the castle is a small belvedere, the castle's pleasure house. It is lovingly managed today and adorned with a beautiful rose garden. In the pleasure house there is an Easter egg museum.
