Blumenstein Castle
Blumenstein Castle is located in the city of Salzburg behind the Bürglstein, at the corner of Pausingerstraße 6 / Blumensteinstraße 1.
The small castle was built in 1635 by the Salzburg councilor and merchant Hans Kellenberger (Khellenperger). In 1653, Bartlmä Strobl and his wife acquired the castle. Another owner of the small castle in 1717 was Rudolf Freisauff von Neudegg, a member of an important Salzburg merchant family. Sigmund Graf Kuenburg acquired the castle from him, and in 1741 the castle received new interior furnishings from Count Kuenburg. In 1805, Franz Hugo Graf Salm-Reifferscheidt and his wife Maria Joisefa, née Gräfin Mac Chaffry of Keanmore, bought the castle with the Blumensteinhof on Gaiusbergstraße. In 1888, Theodor Favarger became the new owner. Neo-Gothic turret attachments were added to the building around 1890.
Blumenstein Castle Today+
The castle is an elongated, three-story building with an adjacent, gate-like driveway leading into an inner courtyard with further outbuildings. On the first upper floor, the windows are fitted with wrought-iron grilles and framed with fascias featuring spherical keystones; on the second upper floor, the windows are simpler. In 1956, during renovation work, the facades and roof were restored to their original condition. On the upper floor, a painted alliance coat of arms Kuenburg-Rollingen was uncovered on the salon ceiling.
