Bisperode Castle

Bisperode Castle is a listed moated castle in Bisperode.

Paderborn Prince-Bishop Hermann Werner von Wolff-Metternich zur Gracht had the complex built from 1694 to 1700 on his family's feudal estate. Previously, the noble court of the extinct Lords of Werder probably stood here.

The three-winged building with an almost square courtyard of honor is bordered by a walled moat. The courtyard opens to the south, and a stone bridge leads over the moat.

The two-story wings have ashlar plinths. The Corps de Logis is emphasized like a risalit. Square pavilions with curved pyramid roofs are situated in front of the two wing buildings to the south. The main portal is framed by columns. The builder's coat of arms is located in the segmental pediment.

Opposite are the farm buildings. The lateral access gates from 1694 form an architectural connection with smooth ashlar articulation.

In 1875, the castle and estate passed into bourgeois ownership; after several changes, farmer August Voß became the owner in 1901, whose descendants still manage the estate today and renovated the castle in 1979-84.
