Bietigheim Castle

Bietigheim Castle is a castle in Bietigheim-Bissingen in the district of Ludwigsburg. The castle is located on the southwestern edge of Bietigheim's old town near the market square.

The entire castle complex is said to have been built in 1386 at the behest of Antonia Visconti, wife of Count Eberhard III of Württemberg. The complex included the administrative courtyard, the castle, a granary, cellars, and the castle wine press. After the incorporation of Ingersheim into the Bietigheim district, due to lack of space in the administrative courtyard, the New Castle or Württemberg Administrative Castle was built in 1506, which served as the administrative seat of the Vogt. This was expanded to its current size in 1542. In 1707, several buildings were severely damaged by a fire; only the administrative building remained intact. Since the Old Castle had been uninhabited since 1667, the Duke of Württemberg decided not to have it rebuilt. However, the castle's economic buildings were rebuilt by the State Church Property Administration and the Bietigheim Rentkammer in the following years.
