Beyernaumburg Castle

Beyernaumburg Castle is a partially preserved castle on a mountain spur at 270 m above sea level behind the present-day Beyernaumburg Palace in the municipality of Beyernaumburg in the Mansfeld-Südharz district in Saxony-Anhalt.

The hilltop castle was mentioned in the 9th century as "castellum Nivanburg" and in 979 as "civitas et castellum Niwanburch".

The castle was initially an imperial castle. The Archdiocese of Magdeburg and the Lords of Querfurt are named as owners of the castle.

From 1430 to 1653 it belonged to the Counts of Asseburg, from 1653 to 1945 to the Bülow family, who were dispossessed in 1945. In 1946, a retirement and nursing home was established in the castle.

The palace within the castle complex was owned by the Freiherr von Bülow family until their expropriation in 1945. Friedrich von Bülow (1760–1831) had the palace park laid out. In the 19th century, the castle was rebuilt. In 1864, the park was planned by Eduard Petzold on behalf of the von Bülow family. The park contains various graves of the von Bülows.

The palace originally had two keeps, of which only the 30-meter-high keep with a base area of 8 × 8 m² in the outer bailey is preserved.
