Bergau Castle

Documented in 1233 as a Hofstatt (farmstead), changing landlords, in 1287 to the Bergauer family, around 1395 presumably a new construction or renovation of the house, after changes of ownership in 1570 to Christoph Jörger von Tollet, under his son a renovation, in 1621 confiscated in the course of the Counter-Reformation, in 1626 to Lilienfeld Abbey, in 1670 renovated and construction of the chapel apse, in 1683 damaged, rebuilt, various uses, since 1951 private property, in 1959 demolition of the Meierhof (manor farm); at its core a medieval four-winged complex, predominantly 16th century, three-story wings under tiled roofs around a rectangular courtyard, main facade to the south, surrounded by a park, in the south remnants of the former walls and corner towers.
