The Battenberg Castle+

The castle was built in 1732. Below the castle, the old walls of Battenberg Castle are still visible, which is why the castle is also called "Neuburg" (New Castle). It served as a hunting lodge for Landgrave Ludwig VIII. After his death in 1768, the castle housed the forest administration of the Battenberg Oberforst, the district office for the Battenberg district, the Battenberg regional court until the 19th century, and until the 1970s, the forest office and the district court of the town, as well as the residences of the chief forester and the district judge. In 1971, the castle became the property of the town and has since housed the town hall and the town administration.
