Bardonnex Castle

To be privately owned

Bardonnex Castle, a fortified house with origins in the 15th century, is picturesquely situated in the countryside north of the village of Bardonnex in the canton of Geneva. It is a remarkable example of the region's so-called "strong houses," characterized by their compact yet slender construction and a certain architectural elegance.

History+

The origins of Bardonnex Castle date back to the 15th century, with the tower being the oldest part from this period. A dendrochronological analysis of a cellar beam dated the construction of the fortified house to around 1427/1428. In the 16th century, it acquired its current form. A gate from 1705, later partially destroyed, found a new function as an agricultural operation in the 19th century. In the 20th century, the castle was extensively renovated and transformed into a patrician residence. In 1985, the fortified house of Bardonnex, along with its surroundings, was classified as a historical monument by the State Council, underscoring its cultural value.
