Banquet Castle (Geneva)

The origins of the château date back to 1642 when Marc Rozet, a Genevan legal advisor, acquired a plot of land. Around 1650, he had a château built there, which became known as Château Rozet. In 1680, it was the scene of a magnificent celebration in honor of an envoy of Louis XIV, which brought the estate great renown. However, Marc Rozet's son had to sell the château in 1712 and died impoverished. In the same year, Etienne Banquet purchased the property, which bore his name from 1713 onwards. He also acquired the surrounding lands extending to the lake. After his death in 1732, his son, who later became a Parisian banker, inherited the château. Over the centuries, the château changed hands multiple times, often within the Banquet family or through marriage. In 1946, it was sold to a surveillance company and in 1953, it passed to a real estate company that parceled out the land. In 1978, the château became the headquarters of the Alesia company, which restored the facades and interiors and converted it into office spaces.
