Bärenthoren Castle

In 1572, George von Redern, owner of the Polenzko manor, built the Bärenthoren outpost. On January 12, 1843, District Administrator and Chamberlain Friedrich von Kalitsch acquired the estate from Princess Albertine Charlotte Auguste von Waldeck und Pyrmont. In 1884, his grandson, also named Friedrich von Kalitsch, inherited the estate. Kalitsch, born in Dessau in 1858, was at that time a Royal Prussian Forest Assessor at the Magdeburg Forest Office. In 1945, the owners were dispossessed and expelled by the communists. Today, the DRK Care Center Marie von Kalitsch is housed in the castle complex.

The castle is a two-story plastered building with a hipped roof. The main facade is adorned with a central risalit and a portico with four columns. The interior features well-preserved stucco ceilings and wall paintings from the 19th century.

The Castle Park

The castle is surrounded by a spacious park, which was laid out in the English landscape style in the mid-19th century. It contains a variety of old trees, a pond, and several sculptures. The park is open to the public and offers a peaceful retreat for visitors.
