Auvernier Castle

The origins of the château date back to 1559, when Blaise Junod, the governor of Valangin, commissioned its construction. Later, his grandchildren sold the estate to Jean-Jacques Tribolet, a knight who had distinguished himself in the army of Henry IV of France. In 1603, ownership changed again to Pierre Chambrier. The purchase agreement at that time also included vineyards, which today cover about seven hectares. Chambrier had the château extensively redesigned and embellished, with the stuccoed north gallery and the garden gates being among his most significant contributions. The Chambrier family owned the château for over 400 years, until 1823, and was known for its wines, which were appreciated nationally and internationally. Despite the changing roles of family members – from military captains to governors – viticulture always remained a central part of the estate. The impressive entrance portal dates from 1740, while the facade was redesigned at the beginning of the 18th century.

Château Auvernier is located in Auvernier, a district of the municipality of Boudry in the canton of Neuchâtel, Switzerland. It is situated at an elevation of approximately 430 meters above sea level.

Today, Château Auvernier is privately owned by Thierry Grosjean and is used as a winery. The château's cellars, built in the 17th century, are open to visitors and bear witness to the estate's long viticultural tradition.
