Au Castle

Au Castle is a castle in the center of Au in der Hallertau in the district of Freising. It is a rectangular complex with corner oriel towers. The Schlossbrauerei Au-Hallertau is located on the castle grounds.

The history of the castle is closely linked to the market town of Au in der Hallertau. The first documented mention occurred around the year 1000. The first known family were the Counts of Moosburg (the last died in 1281). The old castle completely burned down in the Landshut War of Succession from 1503 to 1505 and was rebuilt to its current dimensions between 1544 and 1578. The castle chapel of St. Karl Bartholomäus from 1690 was rebuilt in 1868. The castle garden was laid out in the 19th/20th century.

Since 1846, the Barons Beck von Peccoz have owned the castle, which they still inhabit today. In 1880, they had the castle redesigned in the Neo-Renaissance style by the Munich architect Schoch.
