Amsoldingen Castle

Schloss Amsoldingen is a 10th-century castle in the municipality of Amsoldingen in the canton of Bern and is privately owned.
The exact origins of the castle are unclear. It seems that the Burgundian King Rudolf II is said to have given it as a provostry to the collegiate church of Amsoldingen. In 1484, the Amsoldingen collegiate church was dissolved and incorporated into the Bern Minster collegiate church. In 1496, the castle was sold to the Bernese citizen and merchant Bartholomäus May. After that, the castle changed hands several times, including some Bernese patrician families such as the von Erlach and von Tscharner, and remains in private ownership to this day.
Probably the most famous lady of the castle was Elisabeth de Meuron.
