Ammerland Castle
Ammerland Castle is located on Lake Starnberg in the Ammerland district of the municipality of Münsing. It was built in 1683/85, probably by Caspar Feichtmayr in the style of the Wessobrunn School, for the Wittelsbach Albrecht Sigismund of Bavaria. In 1990, it was renovated after being close to decay and is now privately owned.
It was used as a summer residence by Franz Graf von Pocci after King Ludwig I had given it to his father Fabrizius for his services. He made the castle a cultural center.
In 1853, the painter Moritz von Schwind was a long-term guest at Ammerland Castle.
Max von Oppenheim spent a short time with his sister Wanda von Pocci at Ammerland Castle towards the end of World War II, before moving to Landshut in the spring of 1946 and dying there.
In 1966, a Munich hotelier bought the castle.
